Description
Product Description Made In Wuppertal-Cronenberg, Germany. In Addition To Quality, Innovation And Performance, Other Important Cornerstones Are Sustainable Actions And Value-Guided Orientation. Designed to take the outer jacked off of common wires such as Romex and SO cables, the Knipex dismantling knife (model 98 55) features an ergonomically improved handle shape with comfortable slip guard that's insulated to 1,000 volts — great for working on live wire. This dismantling knife's solid, fixed hook blade has two cutting blades — one on the outside and another on the inside turning point — as well as a guide show that's designed to slide along the inside conductors of the wire and prevent nicking or damaging the inner conductor. A thumb recess and "finger hook" at the end of the handle ensure a good transmission of force when the blade is pulled. The blade is constructed from surgical-grade, air-hardened stainless steel. Quality in Every Detail Sometimes we give our pliers a really hard time. We try to destroy them to find out what makes them good and long lasting. Because we don't want to leave anything to chance, we take a long, careful look. The steel Knipex uses is precisely hardened with a maximum of 0.8 percent carbon and defined parts of chromium and vanadium, guaranteeing optimum cutting performance and service life — even though it requires special production and costs a bit more. But our high product demands require this. The rivet of our high-leverage diagonal cutter also has to stand up to a lot of stress. That's why we literally give it backup: we forge it straight onto the pliers. This means extra effort as we have to precision mill the rivet to a few hundredth millimeters. But satisfied users are worth this effort. Knipex also looks closely at the small details. The angles, the sharpness, the hardness, the toughness of the cutting edges. The precision and smooth movement of the joint. The handle design and the finish. We keep reviewing these subjects, we research, we test, and we improve our pliers. About Knipex Headquartered in Wuppertal, Germany, Knipex is an independently owned family enterprise steeped in tradition and specializing in the manufacturing of high-quality pliers. It all started back in 1882 when C. Gustav Putsch set up his own forge shop in Cronenberg (now a suburb of Wuppertal), and the company is now run by a fourth generation of that family. The world's leading brand in pliers today, Knipex is focused on the performance, service life, and ergonomics of its tools in order to meet the high expectations of professional users. 98 55 1,000-Volt Insulated Dismantling Knife At a Glance Solid, fixed hook blade, sickle shaped with guide show at blade point No damage of the conductor insulation ergonomically improved handle shape with comfortable slip guard Strong grip thanks to slip-proof soft components Multi-component handle insulated to 1,000 volts — great for working on live wire Amazon.com Designed to take the outer jacked off of common wires such as Romex and SO cables, the Knipex dismantling knife (model 98 55) features an ergonomically improved handle shape with comfortable slip guard that's insulated to 1,000 volts — great for working on live wire. I was sick and tired of gnawing and nipping and twisting and pulling outer cable sheathing on larger gauge wire(12 and 10 and larger). I have injured myself too many times using sharp cutters and knives and such, so I decided to buy this specialty combination hawk-billed cutter with a penetrating tooth on the end to start the cut into the insulation.I spent a little extra on this knife after first selecting a cheaper brand and then switching to this one. Wow, was I pleased with this knife. BUT, you have to be VERY careful when using it, because the blade is so sharp that you can find the tool 'coming at you' in a hurry after you have made the initial puncture into the sheathing with the barb at the end. Once I learned to hold on to both the knife and the cable firmly during the initial plunge, then gently pull the knife through the outer insulation, this tool worked even better than I'd hoped. But like I said, this baby is sharp and you should pop the protective sleeve back on to the cutter after each use. Every tinkering electrician like me needs one of these....unless you get a thrill out of slicing your fingers with a box cutter!
